Call it the battle of the blondes: Sources confirm a report in The Hollywood Reporter today that Scarlett Johansson and Blake Lively are the frontrunners to star in Alfonso Cuaron’s next project Gravity opposite Robert Downey Jr. Both women have tested for the role of an astronaut lost in space, fighting her way back to Earth. Neither Johansson nor Lively have yet to receive an offer, however. Sources say that Lively auditioned for the role over a month ago along with 11 other women. Johansson only read for the part last week. While Johannson is a bigger star internationally, Warner Bros. has long been a fan of cultivating young talent that it had a hand in discovering, which definitely describes Lively. She co-stars in the studio’s upcoming flick The Town as well as Green Lantern, in which she plays Ryan Reynolds’ love interest. Warner Bros. TV is also responsible for Gossip Girl, which co-stars Lively, on the CW. It’s not lost on anyone that Reynolds is Johansson’s husband. Depending on the outcome of the Cuaron project, the Green Lantern premiere could be one awkward affair. Warner Bros. declined to comment. Source: Entertainment Weekly |

HollywoodNews.com: As Blake Lively’s career continues to grow, she’s finding that it is the careers of her male counterparts that she wants to model her own life after. The ‘Gossip Girl’ actress has found that when she’s asked about whose career she admires, she often answers with naming men, reports Digital Spy. But it isn’t that Lively finds there aren’t women to look up to in this business, “but [she] feel[s] like men are still given much better opportunities.” However, she isn’t too worried about finding someone to model her career after: “[T]here are so many people I admire for so many reasons that I can’t look at one person’s life and say, ‘I want that life’. I want to make my own history.” With big roles in Green Lantern and The Town, it sounds like Lively is going to have a huge career ahead of her. Source: Hollywood News |

Back in the February issue of Esquire magazine, the “Gossip Girl” actress professed her love of cooking while baking a pie for her interviewer. But recent reconnaissance indicates that, these days, Lively is much more interested in having others do the cooking for her. Insiders tell us that Lively, who next month will be seen in Ben Affleck’s buzz-generating drama “The Town,” fueled the city’s restaurant economy this month by going on a serious grub crawl that saw her dining at a dozen establishments in 13 days. And if she ever breaks up with her co-star Penn Badgley, prospective suitors should take note of her gustatory travels. Based on her dining habits, Lively is a seafood-loving locavore who gravitates toward French methods of preparation. Our sources tell us that the actress’ culinary odyssey began in the key of seafood on Aug. 5 when she ate at power sushi restaurant Nobu in Tribeca and the more rustic Mary’s Fish Camp in the West Village. Then, on Saturday, Aug. 7, she returned to the latter neighborhood to dine at Paris Commune, which is known for its brunch, and Blue Hill, which is revered for its fetishistic embrace of local, seasonal food. On Aug. 10, Lively did a high-low, East-West thing that would work well as a “Gossip Girl” narrative device. She checked out the atmosphere-free Chirping Chicken, a favorite of upper West Siders who want good chicken and ribs without any pretense. That same day, she also headed crosstown to Madison Ave. art dealer hangout Sant Ambroeus, which is mostly about pretense – and good gelato. Aug. 11, she visited only Rosa Mexicano on the upper West Side, but resumed her two-a-day eatery habit on the 12th, when she dined at the Moroccan influenced hipster hangout Café Gitane at the Jane Hotel, and the classic French Le Grainne Café on Ninth Ave. in Chelsea. Perhaps her culinary excursions began to take a toll on the leggy Lively’s waistline, because by midmonth, she began to pace herself. On Aug. 13, she ate at Laurent Tourondel’s seafood-themed restaurant BLT Fish on W. 17th St. Aug. 15, she supped at Cookshop, another establishment that prides itself on its seasonal, local menu. And as best we can tell, her culinary quest ended on Aug. 18 at Café Joul, a French neighborhood bistro on First Ave. in midtown east. Asked to comment on Lively’s culinary jaunt, her spokeswoman says only, “She’s a fan of trying new cuisine.” Well, then, if Lively’s explorations haven’t taken her to Le Bernardin, may we suggest a trip to the midtown west seafood temple, where the food is excellent and executive chef Eric Ripert is positively dreamy. We’ve been huge fans of the celebrity interview in Interview magazine in the past. They brought us gems like Ashley Greene being interviewed by Michael Sheen, and Megan Fox being interviewed by Zach Galifianakis (be still my heart), but this month’s big interview just had us cringing just a little. The celebrity subject was none other than Blake Lively, who is shaping up to have a big 2010 and 2011 between the fourth season of “Gossip Girl,” “The Town” and “Green Lantern.” However, we would have much preferred her being interviewed by Ryan Reynolds, or maybe even her boyfriend Penn Badgley. Anyone instead of Ben Affleck as the conversation didn’t flow quite as well as we’d hoped it would. So let’s pick out some awkward, flirtatious gems from this Interview, shall we? At the time of the interview, Blake was in Paris for couture fashion week, and she was telling Ben about her first experience in Paris with her brother. Instead of just flat out asking Blake which brother it was, he asked, “Is this the same brother I met?” Thanks for adding that personal touch in there for us, Ben. Blake’s response was, “Mm-hmm… Eric.” |

Gossip Girl star Blake Lively is reportedly threatening to quit the show. According to Heat magazine, the actress has become tired with constant behind-the-scenes arguments and wants to kill off her character Serena Van Der Woodsen. An unnamed source said: “Blake has asked producers to kill off her character. She’s tired of working on the show. It was great at the beginning, but she’s started to get bored of her storylines and all the petty fights on set. “Nearly all the cast members have had some kind of bust-up. Besides the fact that she gets to work with her boyfriend [Penn Badgley, who plays Dan Humphrey], Blake wants to leave.” Lively has reportedly asked for a “dramatic exit” and has made suggestions to the show’s producers about how Serena could die. Gossip Girl returns to The CW for a fourth season on September 13. |
